Wu Qinbiao, village secretary, said that the village collective planted over 20 mu (1.33 hectares) of red thin cayenne peppers. In August, these peppers entered the harvest period, and the yield per mu (0.067 hectares) reached about 1,000 kg. Now, over 20,000 kg of peppers have been harvested.
Chili pepper cultivation is a fast and efficient agricultural industry and a labor-intensive industry that requires a large amount of labor at every stage from seedling cultivation, transplanting, and management to harvesting. Therefore, local villagers can increase income at their doorsteps through this industry.
“The harvested rapeseeds can be pressed into oil and sold in the market, which can increase the income of the village collective economy,” said Wu Qinbiao who plans to revitalize the “winter idle fields” to further improve land utilization efficiency.
